Our October show opened with jazz guitarist Michael Coppola. This New York-based musician began playing guitar at age 11 and went on to study classical fingerstyle as well as jazz guitar, serial and atonal composition. He is one of a small handful of guitarists who have pushed the boundaries of the instrument by playing 8- and 9-string guitars. He developed his own unique tuning for the 9-string to capture jazz-piano sounds, and performed for our audience on one of his custom-made instruments.
